We caught the mouse! We went to Lowe’s last night and got a ‘humane’ trap. I put loads of peanut butter in it and set it in the closet with the water heater. I thought I heard some noise last night but was too chicken to check it. I think Josh checked it this morning, but expected it to be heavy (it’s dark plastic with a big sticker on top so you can’t really see in it), so he said it was empty this morning. He came home at lunch and I asked him to check it again. He picked it up and turned it over this time. He was shocked, “You got him!” he said. All this time he was just humoring me when we went to buy the trap – he didn’t believe me that I saw a mouse!
So he took the trap to a nice field with a creek where we go walking tonite and let him loose. But he said the poor thing was so scared he just held on the trap and Josh had to shake him out! He was covered in poop and peanut butter and was quaking! It may have been more humane to snap his little neck with the old style contraptions, I don’t know! Poor thing. I hope he’s doing better now…
Today PJ didn’t seem to remember our little “Go pee for Mommy, PSSSSSSSST” routine. But he is chatting up a storm! He’s finding new noises to make every day. And now that I’ve thrown out my schedule book, he’s having to be a little more specific with me about what he needs. I think he used to just wait until I thought he was hungry… Now he’s beginning to tell me with a worried sort of shout and then when I come to him and ask him what he needs, he keeps squawking and will sometimes turn his head to the side and open his mouth.
He’s found his other hand, too. He sort of holds it and then doesn’t know quite what to do with it.
