You’re very good at football, Momma

So PJ says to me, “I’m going to hit you with lightning if you stop the Winnie the Pooh movie, Momma.”

I tell him that’s not a very nice thing to say to his Momma. I said, “Do you say things like that to your Momma who feeds you and takes care of you and lets you watch movies like Winnie the Pooh?”

He smiles and says, “Nooo…”

Then I say, “I just don’t have enough energy to start the movie for you unless you can say something nice to your Momma.”

PJ says, “Helping you put away the dishes gives you energy.” He remembers the last time I had an energy drain. I can’t remember what the offense was. But I had told him if he wanted my energy to return, he needed to help me clear the table. This is part of my new discipline routine from Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood.

He can’t think of anything, appartently. So Poppa helps him out. “Momma, you are a good cook.” I say thank you, that’s very nice. “Momma, you are pretty.” Thank you, Poppa, that’s very nice.

“Momma, you’re very good … mmm … playing football.”

“Thank you, that’s very nice, PJ”, I say. “But I don’t really play football. I need one more nice thing before I have enough energy to play the movie for you.”

“Momma, you’re very good at catching a ball.” I guess this must be a very high compliment from a 3 year old boy!

So now we are watching Winnie the Pooh.
