Wow, so much has happened!

AK Trip: We set off for AK at 4am from the house. 6am our flight left out of Greensboro. Flight to Atlanta went fine. Flight from Atlanta to Salt Lake was frustrating because they charged us for meager food on the flight! Then Salt Lake to Anchorage went well, PJ was great, but we were exhausted. Nursing on the plane isn’t too bad as long as you sit in a window seat and have your husband next to you. Maybe I got like 30 minutes of sleep total. Dan and Linda picked us up and Marne and her boys met us at the airport. It was wonderful to be home. We were very excited to surprise the family. We headed to the birthing center first to surprise Kym and then home to surprise Mom and Dad.

Brock was born: Brock was born at 11:03pm at Providence Hospital – 8 lbs, 6 oz. It was incredible to be there. It was like being at a really intense sport event or something. The midwives were amazing. She didn’t even need stitches! I won’t give a blow by blow, but Brock was 14 days overdue, Kym had to be induced, progress was slow at first, there was an imminent threat of a c-section, her midwife had been helping her try all kinds of things to get her to go into labor for the 3 days prior… By the time she went into the last phase of labor at 9:30pm on August 14, Mom was there, Ellen (Mark’s mom), Mark of course, Dad, me and PJ – quite an audience! I asked Kym if it was OK for us all to be there. “It’s a free show,” she said. The epidural had really helped her to relax!

A bath at Oma’s house:

A shampoo from Oma to get that cradle cap under control…

Kym at Providence after her epidural:

Papa and PJ at the birth of Brock. Kym was in hard labor here… Papa kept his eyes closed most of the time!
