Tried to go to Mount Mitchell today. You can drive to the top. It was an absolutely beautiful day. But we spent the whole time in the car! The road was closed from all directions because of mudslides from Ivan. Josh had looked it up on the web and it said that the road was open from the south. Alas, it was not so. And very unfortunately, too. Because PJ decided on Sunday that he had had it with his car seat.

I have never heard him cry so loud or long. We had to stop several times to nurse and comfort him. I dunno if it’s a growth spurt or the probiotics we gave him today. We had gone last week without them (and I cut out caffiene, chocolate, and wheat from my diet, too) to see if it helped his gas problem. Well, he was better, so we decided to try the probiotic again. Well, we are nixing the probiotic. They helped his colicky behaviour in his first month or so, but after today’s fussiness and loads of spit up, it’s probably best not to mess with it anymore. I have read though that perhaps we would have better luck if I took them. The reason we are so big on the probiotic is all we have heard and read about the benefits of probiotics in getting the kid’s gut flora right. And if you get the gut flora healthy, supposedly he will be less likely to develop allergies…
