Missing family today. Tomorrow is Josh’s white coat ceremony and we have no family near enough to come. It is nice to have the Better Halves (spouses of med students group), but it seems like we are the only ones without family nearby! I guess near is relative when you are from Alaska… Perhaps we should be hanging out with the internationals!

PJ has now peed on command for me three mornings in a row! I have just been asking him to do it in his diaper as I change him. I’m going to have to try him over the toilet tomorrow. I’m afraid of making a mess or upsetting him. We’ll see how it goes.

I was re-inspired by my friend Kathryn that I worked with in Waco. She’s in Houston now and just had a baby boy on August 16th I think. Anyway, she asked how infant potty training was going. I told her slow and gave her the details, all proud that he had peed on command for me a couple of times in his diaper. Well, she shocked me! Wellborn (her baby, named for her maiden name) pees and poos for her over the toilet once a day!!! I didn’t even know she was going to try it!!! Here Wellborn is only two months old! And Kathryn the styling, high society chick that she is, doing infant potty training. Will wonders never cease. She had to have a natural childbirth, too, when she didn’t want one. She progressed too quickly for them to give her an epidural.

Went to a La Leche League meeting on Wednesday. It was actually pretty neat. After breastfeeding being such a difficult thing in the beginning with the pumping and engorgement and mess, it was really cool to be around these women who love breastfeeding. It’s like being around parents who have a blast raising their children as opposed to folks to where it’s a chore. I came home and stopped logging when PJ nurses. They were so encouraging that you could trust your baby to tell you when he needs to eat that I decided I’m probably making this whole thing too hard by keeping track of every time we nurse, all of what I am eating, etc. He is still having gas, by the way. Although since I cut back so much on wheat he hasn’t usually been as bad.

I met a neat girl there named Sarah with her baby, Brody, who is 10 months old. Very cute. He was wearing an orange shirt that said, “I love my ” and then a cartoon mummy. Sarah said Brody had gas so badly that they always held him while pumping his legs. She said it just went away when he hit 4 months. I’m hoping the same thing will happen for PJ! Went to her house today and visited a bit. She is letting me borrow her Kangaroo Korner fleece sling to see if PJ will like it. It would be convenient if he liked slings (just throw him in and go grocery shopping, etc.), but he hasn’t really liked the Nojo sling I got earlier. It’s like he doesn’t like to be squished. As long as I’m moving, it’s ok… but stop and he starts crying.

Won an ebay auction today. That is always an uplifting experience. Unless, of course, you were suckered into paying more than you intended just to win! I did pay a little much. But it was this infant seat insert that has a vibrating pad. We borrowed one from a friend and PJ liked it. I liked it. Anyway, couldn’t find it anywhere – Walmart, BabysRUs, Target, even online. The only place I found it was on the Spanish Fisher Price site. It was listed for $22 and I couldn’t figure out how to buy it. I think the page was outdated or something. Anyway, as luck would have it, someone was listing one on ebay. I got it for $20.50, plus shipping. Hopefully, PJ can still use it for a couple of months. They grow out of this stuff so fast. I’m sort of desparate because he hasn’t been liking his car seat.

Camera is definitely toast. I don’t know if I mentioned that. My friend Adrian in Montana charged the battery and sent it back to me. Dead, dead, dead. Using a disposible camera right now.
