Eliza – where’s Jesus? Another bathroom salvation…

So Eliza often visits me in the loo… She comes up to me today (I think it was today) and says, “Where’s Jesus?” I answered her with the pat Sunday School answer of “at the right hand of the Father.” What does that mean, anyway? ran through my head as I said it. So I followed with, “and he can live in your heart if you want him to. Do you want him to?”

“Yes, I do!”

So we said a salvation prayer and she repeated it all after me, asking Jesus into her heart and forgiving her of her sin, etc. We had been down this road before several months ago, where she wanted Jesus in her heart, but didn’t want to pray. This time she really stuck with it and seemed into it.

Interesting how she and PJ now have both gotten serious about Jesus in the bathroom…

  1. Took me back a step or two on an assumption I had been making, and a stop at firstisnotequallast pushed that reconsideration further, writing that gently corrects the reader without being aggressive about it is a rare diplomatic skill and the team here clearly knows how to land critical points without turning readers off.

  2. Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?

  3. The detail that sticks with me is following the pat answer with an actual question, then letting her repeat the prayer herself. With a child that young, the wording matters less than whether it lands at all. One practical thing: write the date and a sentence about what she said in a notes file, then revisit it in a few months with a simple question like what she remembers about Jesus. Kids that age often re-ask the same thing, and a record helps you see whether it is curiosity or just copying you.
