Finally Friday! Josh had the day off today (from his Community Practice Experience – working with Dr. Tolbert’s family practice in Advance, NC). We stayed up late last night while I worked on some frustrating forms for a website and Josh did homework and PJ snoozed. Went to bed at a ridiculous 2am. So, of course, then PJ has gas at 6am! Almost fell over with him in the bathroom while I tried to poo him. Nothing – I think I scared him too much to poo! Poor thing. So I put him in his buzz chair in the co-sleeper and tried to go back to sleep. By the time we finally got up he had had a big poo in his diaper. Would have been fun to get that on in the toilet!

I have to say, it has begun. I am outnumbered. The other day I pooed PJ and he peed at the same time. I’d rather have pee on the toilet than poo on the floor, so I let him spray the seat and lid. Then I went and put a diaper on him and had to go myself. Sat right in it. I had forgotten to wipe it up! Argh!

Fall is beautiful here. I don’t think it’s quite as pretty as last fall though.

Went to see Dr. Tolbert today. We’ve decided to wait until PJ is 2 to vaccinate him. That’s the plan anyway. Since we have such a history of allergies and asthma on both sides of the family, we figure it would be better to give his immune system a chance to mature. Here in North Carolina they recommend 21 shots before the age of 2. The reason they have to give so many is because they have to repeat several for their immune system to remember them. After two, you don’t have to do that. So Dr. Tolbert was pretty open to that, which we appreciated. We don’t plan to do any daycare so his exposure is pretty minimal. We’re sort of weighing the risks… it can be a hard call!

So he weighed 16 lbs. 5 oz. I don’t know how long he is, I ought to measure him. I was worried about a couple of things. The gas, for one. Dr. Tolbert seems to think it’s just an immature gut. I asked him about food allergies and yeast infections, but he didn’t seem to think those things really had any merit. He recommended we try the simethicone drops again. I haven’t tried them for awhile, so I’ll give it a whirl again. I’ve noticed a little skin rash – I asked a PA friend of mine about it and she said it was just slight baby eczema. Dr. Tolbert seemed to agree there. Then PJ has a weepy eye. Dr. Tolbert recommended dropping some breast milk in there. I had already heard of doing that, so I’ll give that a try, too. It was kind of funny because Dr. Tolbert had a quizzical look and asked a couple of times, do you have any questions or concerns? Apparently our concerns are pretty minimal and he thinks PJ is in tip-top shape – so why the heck did we come? Neurotic first time Mom I guess!

Packed up for Dr. Tolbert’s
